DBS Checks

Whether you are a parent looking to employ someone new to look after your children and would like them to have a DBS check done first or you are a childcarer requiring a new DBS check, we can help you obtain one.

It is vital that anyone whose work involves caring for, supervising or being in sole charge of children has a DBS check (previously known as CRB) as it is in place to help prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups such as children.

The DBS check searches criminal records for all spent and unspent convictions, cautions and reprimands. It will also check ‘barred lists’ – a list of individuals barred from working with children and any other relevant information held by police forces.

All nannies and childcarers registered with Lemonjelly must have a DBS.

Lemonjelly can help you obtain a new DBS, contact us today to arrange an appointment.

The cost for this service is £70.00

We will require the following information in order to carry out a DBS check;

  • Proof of address – council tax statement, latest bank statement, utility bill
  • Proof of identification – Driving License, Passport, birth certificate
  • Details of 5 years’ consecutive postal addresses (mm/yyyy to mm/yyyy)
  • Your National Insurance Number
  • Any details of name/surname change (i.e. If you got married – date you married and you will need to provide a copy of your relevant Certificate/s)

DBS checks can take 2 to 3 weeks, but usually it is returned within 1 week, this need to be considered if you require a DBS check done before you start working in childcare or if you are looking to employ a new childcarer.

The NEW DBS Update Service

The DBS Update Service is designed to reduce the administration and expense of the DBS system by allowing DBS certificate holders to monitor their certificates online – allowing future employers and agencies to view the necessary information, without the need to apply for a new certificate.

DBS Certificate can be kept up-to-date and taken from role to role, within the same workforce, where the same type and level of check is required.

How does it work?

The Update Service costs £13 a year.

Subscribing to the Update Service?

Childcarers can subscribe online at www.gov.uk/dbs-update-service – they will need either their DBS application number or their DBS certificate number* and a debit card.

When a subscription is confirmed applicants must make a note of their unique ID number and keep it secure, this is what they will need to give to prospective employers and agencies.

*IMPORTANT: If applicants want to subscribe using their DBS Certificate number they must do so within 14 days of the certificates issue date.
